Thoughts:
Truthfully, I had a pretty rough run. I had played racquetball for 45 minutes to an hour and then went straight into my run. I had had a great breakfast, one that I thought could sustain me for racquetball and a run, but it didn't.
And while it was very sunny, the constant gusty wind that pushed against me for the first two miles was enough to make me want to quit right there. Very discouraging.
Joe kept me going though. I worked my way through the wind out to Joe's statue at Beaver Stadium, and even though there was an Ohio State (I think) team there checking out the statue, I ran by with my pointer finger held up just like Joe always did and yelled a WE ARE! No audible response, but I didn't expect one - only the one in my head coming from Joe up there in Heaven. That was enough for me.
I eventually pushed my way through the wind to an area that I could run between houses. I enjoy looking at houses in general - I'm an HGTV addict - but especially the ones in the quaint little neighborhoods surrounding State College. I can't say that I took in much scenery on this run, but I did do my usual run past the Paterno's, pointer finger high, and really dug in after that.
About a half a mile later, I was sailing down Atherton - key word being "down" and feeling okay. Once I hit Beaver, I slowed and my pace began to wane again. This kept up for the rest of the run, when I fiiiiinally stopped in the middle of downtown. Caught the bus home, ate lunch, and rested for an hour because I just felt crappy. I don't know what was up with me, really.. but I have a sneaking suspicion it had something to do with this sore throat that's been developing since this morning. Updates on that when they become available. Definitely planning a trip to CVS ASAP though.
